Kung Fu Corner at Kowloon Park – where an intimidating Art becomes aesthetically enriched Culture
Kowloon Peninsula takes up the southern territory of Hong Kong and is a part of Kowloon. One of the major tourist hubs of Hong Kong, Tsim Sha Tsui is set towards the south of Kowloon sprawling across the promontory of Kowloon Peninsula. The most number of hotels, finest restaurants, important museums as well as major performing venues in Hong Kong can all be found within Tsim Sha Tsui.
Tsim Sha Tsui also nestles a big public park by the name Kowloon Park. A place for a respite, to meet, to have a family picnic or day out and most of all to have fun and relax, is what Kowloon Park is all about. Kowloon Park used to be a former British camp barrack that was transformed into a wonderful park by the Urban Council of Hong Kong. Presently the park is managed and maintained by Hong Kong's Leisure and Cultural Services Department.

For those who are inspired and intrigued by Kung Fu, the popular Tele series of the 1970s will be delighted to visit Kowloon Park's Kung Fu Corner. Kung Fu is generally a type of Chinese martial arts that emphasizes on Qi manipulation where qi is said to be the life energy that is light and airy and flows constantly. Conversely in Chinese the words Kung Fu literally means individual accomplishment and hard work.
Every Sunday afternoon is special for the Kowloon Park visitors as large throngs gather around the Kung Fu Corner, brimming with excitement. From the smallest kids to the oldest adults, locals and tourists all wait impatiently to watch various performances staged one after another.
You will get to see various types of Chinese fighting styles including Tai Chi and Kung Fu performed by veteran masters and their students. To spice things up the performers will fight with weapons giving you the thrills and chills of a Jackie Chan or Bruce Lee movie, in person. To add the cultural flavours you will also see some spectacular lion or dragon dances that are lively, colourful and exhilarating.
Kowloon Park is an ideal place for a family day out since it offers diverse array of fun and games and edutainment for the whole family. The premises also houses important centres for promoting heritage and health education besides nestling the Hong Kong Museum of History. Kids can have a time of their life with the interesting array of play grounds while birders can sate their birding thirst with the Bird Lake and the Aviary. There are also a number of impressive thematic gardens among myriads of highlights that make Kowloon Park a much favoured tourist hotspot.
