If I get manual licence can I drive an Automatic transmission car?

I'm not sure if that has been asked before..I'm planning on taking lessons for the first time, should I go for Manual? or Automatic? and If I get either can I drive the other?
I live in the UK.
Thanks Q&A, I think some people are just rude or fail to understand that it is my first time to know about cars and licence!

Good question that not a lot of people know the answer to :) .

In reality, the only people who learn to drive in an automatic car are ones who can't (either don't have the ability to learn, or are disabled and physically cannot), or people who are just too lazy to persist with learning manual. You can pass your test a lot quicker in an automatic because half of the driving skill required is removed because you don't need to worry about anything gear related such as changing gears and hill starts but learning this in a manual car is easy. anyway.

Therefore the law is that if you have passed a test in an automatic car, you aren't legally allowed to drive a Manual car.

If you pass your test in a Manual car though, you are legally allowed to drive both Manual and Automatic cars.

It makes sense to learn in a manual car though. The gears are confusing at first but they become second nature within a few weeks.

The problem with automatic cars is that you don't have as much physical control over the car and you can't change gears when you want to, so a lot of the time, it revs too much (wasting fuel) or changes gear too early (wasting acceleration).

Plus when you go to buy your first car, you will be extremely limited if you want to buy an automatic used car because they are very rare.

As far as I can see, the only time an automatic is useful is in situations where you have a very large, expensive car that you just want to sit back and cruise around in :) .
