Realizing the importance of Livestock Supplies for Ranchers

Just other night I was watching Anderson Cooper report from Haiti.  It was a detailed report and he was interviewing someone about the supply situation there and areas where people didn't have much food.  It's funny what hits you, you know?  I was struck by the meager rations of a bunch of orphans.  That day they were left to subsist on a meager bowl of beans with no meat.  Now, don't get me wrong.  I love beans.  Really, I do.  But I also enjoy meat (perhaps not to the degree that Tyler Perry loves his chicken...a funny sketch I've shared below in a You Tube video).  Then my mind went to wondering what it would be like to do without it (obviously, I'm not vegetarian...nothing against it, it's just not for me).  Then my mind went to the people that raise the livestock and provide poultry and cattle to those of us that eat it.

I have to be honest with myself and say that I can't remember a time when I've given much thought to these people.  It's pretty obvious to me that they work hard to provide something that I desire...even consume and live off of almost every day.  Yet, I'm so far removed from an agrarian culture living in the city that it's not in my face.  I go to the grocery, buy what I want, and don't think about the process of it all.

Supporting Ranchers and Farmers as well as providing proper Livestock Supplies

But this night, I paused and took thought.  What if we didn't have people to raise chickens or pigs or cattle anymore?  What would my life look like then?

To a bunch of city dwellers, this whole livestock thing is pretty different.  Like me, you might find Wikipedia's article on LIVESTOCK interesting.  And I'm glad the women and men who raise various forms of livestock have one another for support in forums like www.ranchers.net.  But I also think it's high time some of the rest of us offered up some thanks for those who are into raising livestock!  I, for one, am on that list now.

When I drank that milk this morning, I offered a prayer of thanks for the dairy owner who is caring for the cow that produced it.

When I ate that hard-boiled egg for lunch, I thought about the chicken farmer who raised those chickens that provided the eggs.

THANK YOU, ranchers and farmers!  I'm not in a situation where I'm having to do without.  I want you to do well and prosper so I don't have to ever be in that circumstance.  I appreciate how you're feeding the world!  God bless you!  Thank You, God, for these people.  Bless them.  Prosper them.

Now, enjoy this funny Tyler Perry scene about how grateful he is for chicken :-) and offer your own thanks.
